TSC hints when it will start recruitment of 6,000 interns, 5,000 permanent teachers

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has hinted on when it will start recruitment of 6,000 intern teachers and 5,000 others on permanent terms.

During the release of 2021 KCSE results TSC CEO Dr Nancy Macharia said the Commission has been allocated a total of sh 3.7 billion for recruitment of teachers this year.

“Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani allocated TSC Sh2.5 billion for the recruitment of 5,000 teachers on permanent terms in the next financial year,” said Macharia.

She added that another Sh1.2 billion was allocated in the Financial Year 2022/2023, to recruit 6,000 interns as a stop-gap measure to ease the shortage.

However following the announcement a number of scammers have used the opportunity to mislead and exploit thousands of unemployed teachers.

Two days ago the Commission blacklisted as fake a viral advert which was trending on teachers walls.

The advert which we established was for 2019 recruitment got circulated and already some teachers were in the process of applying.

Fake advert TSC warned teachers about

According to Nancy Macharia the Commission teacher shortage currently stands at 114,581.

TSC also needs 36,000 new teachers to effectively implement junior secondary set to start January next year.

The Commission is currently grappling with mass exit of teachers who have reached their retirement age.
