TRAINING OF JUNIOR SCHOOL TEACHERS IN ICT INTEGRATION IN TEACHING AND LEARNING UNDER KENYA DIGITAL ECONOMY ACCELERATION PROJECT (KDEAP)
1.0 Introduction
The Teachers Service Commission and ICT Authority have planned the training of Junior school teachers in ICT integration in teaching and learning from 12th to 26th June 2026, in select venues in 47 counties.
The integration of ICT in learning has become critical in enhancing the quality, relevance, and effectiveness of teaching and learning.
In the Competency-Based Education (CBE) framework, ICT is a key enabler for developing essential learner competencies such as digital literacy, critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and problem solving.
In Junior Schools, teachers are expected to meaningfully incorporate digital tools and devices into their pedagogical practices to create engaging, learner-centred lessons that support diverse learning needs.
Additionally, the teacher training component is closely linked to the Kenya Primary Education Equity in Learning Program (KPEELP) Second Additional Financing Disbursement Linked Indicator (DLI) on measuring utilization of digital content in lesson delivery and the use of digital learning resources and equipment procured under KDEAP.
2.0 Purpose
The purpose of this training is to build the capacity of Junior School teachers to effectively integrate ICT in teaching and learning in line with the Competency-Based Education (CBE) by equipping teachers with the knowledge, skills, and competencies required to integrate ICT in lesson preparation and delivery, use digital tools and platforms to support instructional design, promote collaboration, design ICT-integrated lesson plans aligned with CBE learning outcomes, creation and utilization of digital learning resources to enhance learner engagement, participation, and knowledge retention through interactive and learner-centred approaches.
Additionally, digital platforms such as Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams, and the open-source learning management system Moodle support the organization and delivery of digital instruction by enabling teachers to upload learning materials, assign tasks, communicate with learners, and conduct assessments.
Together, these remote learning strategies strengthen the resilience of the education system and support the development of digital skills among both teachers and learners.
