EXTENSION OF INTERNSHIP CONTRACTS FOR SERVING JUNIOR SCHOOL TEACHER INTERNS
The Commission approved the extension of contracts for all serving Junior School Teacher Interns for a further twelve (12) months, with effect from 1st January, 2026 to 31st December, 2026 in line with the Teacher Internship Policy and Guidelines (2019).
All interns shall remain in their current stations, subject to their formal confirmation of acceptance.
To ensure seamless transition and avoid interruption of learning when the current contracts lapse on 31st December 2025, you are required to ensure the following.
1) Issue the Extension Offer to all serving Interns withing your county with immediate effect but not later than 20th December, 2025.
2) Ensure that each intern confirms acceptance or decline of the offer. That is;
a) Interns accepting the offer must:
- Sign the acceptance section of the offer; and
- Submit a valid Personal Accident Cover for the new engagement period
b) Interns declining the offer must;
- Sign the decline section; and
- Hand over all institutional property in their custody and clear with the Head of Institution
3) Update the status of acceptance or decline for each Intern in the Entry/Exit Portal
4) Compile and submit the lists of Interns, Offer Letters and county summary of acceptance and declines to Director Staffing using dirstaffing@tsc.go.ke and copy to ddstaffing@tsc.go.ke by 23rd January 2026
5) Submit proposals for the replacements of Interns who decline, using the existing merit lists, together with No. 4 above for the Commissions approval.
In this regard, you are required to supervise and coordinate the exercise to ensure full compliance and prompt communication to Interns on the status of their contracts, and overall readiness for January 2026 reporting date.
