The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) top official has revealed the fate of teachers who attended promotion interviews in December and January.
In a video that has since gone viral the TSC Chairperson Jamleck Muturi, while addressing teachers who had attended the Mwalimu National Sacco Annual General Conference (AGM) in Meru said everything is set for the release of promotion letters.
Muturi says teachers should be optimistic as the Commission has finalized printing of the letters which will be released this week.
“On twenty fourth of January we finalized everything and we are going to promote 36,505 teachers. Last year to February this year we are promoting over fifty one thousand teachers,” said Muturi amid applause from teachers.
Muturi attributed the huge number of teacher promotions to President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza government.
Last week TSC Chief Executive, Dr. Nancy Macharia said over 36,000 promotion letters will start trickling down to counties in a week time.
Over one hundred and fifty thousand primary and post primary school teachers who were shortlisted and attended promotion interviews had waited with bated breath for the letters.
The Commission will issue letters to both successful and unsuccessful teachers who attended the interviews.
Those successful will be issued with promotional letters and will be required to submit five Chapter six documents to complete their promotion and allow their posting.
Below are the five documents that are mandatory inline with Chapter six of the Kenyan Constitution on ‘Leadership and Integrity’.
- Valid Certificate of Good Conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) cost 1,050/-
- Clearance Certificate from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) cost Free
- Tax Compliance Certificate from Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) cost Free
- Clearance from Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) cost Free
- A Clearance Certificate from an approved Credit Reference Bureau (CRB) cost 2,200/-
The Commission will also issue regret letters to teachers who were not successful after the interviews.
Despite being issued with regret letters the teachers will be eligible for promotion application in future adverts.
The Commission advertised a total of 36,505 promotion vacancies for primary and post primary school teachers in September last year.
The interviews for primary school teachers were done from 4th to 15th December 2023.
