The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has ordered teachers who are not yet registered by National Social Security Fund (NSSF) to do so by Wednesday this week.
TSC is withholding millions of shillings deducted from payslips of teachers who are not registered by NSSF.
The Commission says it can only remit to NSSF if the teachers have an account with them. Below is a circular that was released by TSC to guide the process.

REGISTRATION OF TEACHERS AS MEMBERS OF NSSF – EMPLOYER NO. 00081116
The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) is a statutory body established under the NSSF Act No. 45 of 2013. The Fund provides for workers’; Social Security benefits, Survivor benefits and Invalidity benefits.
The Commission in compliance with the NSSF Act No. 45 of 201 3, effected on its payroll deductions for onward remittance to NSSF in the month of July 2023.
These deductions are applicable to all employees on the Commission’s payroll, irrespective of whether the employee is registered with NSSF or not.
To this end, it is the individual responsibility of all employees to ensure that they are registered with NSSF so that their monthly contributions can be credited to the individual employee NSSF accounts.
Accordingly, we advise that all unregistered teachers to register with NSSF through the following avenues:
- Physically visiting the nearest NSSF Offices with their National Identity Cards;
- Physically visiting the nearest Huduma Centre offices with their National Identity Cards; or
- Dialling *303# on their Safaricom lines and follow the prompts provided.
Alternatively, liaise with the nearest NSSF Branch Office for them to send a Registration Team to a convenient venue where all unregistered teachers can physically avail themselves with identification documents.
All teachers are expected to register on or before 31st July 2024.
Kindly ensure that this Circular is disseminated to all teachers in your jurisdiction and equally make a follow up on its compliance.
