Teachers have received their December salaries. Majority of mainstream banks paid teachers salaries by close of business yesterday Friday 19th December with major.
These include KCB, Cooperative, Equity, Family, Absa (formerly Barclays) banks as well as a number of Saccos.
Payment is ongoing and will conclude today Saturday 20th December for the remaining Banks and Saccos.
Its now on record that teachers will be getting their salaries by 20th day of each month.
TSC acting CEO Eveleen Mitei, has been consistent to ensure compliance with circular dated 24th June 2025 that was released by Head of Public Service, Mr Felix Koskei to guide timely payment of salaries to public servants.
In the circular Koskei, had directed all government agencies including TSC to submit payrolls to the National Treasury by the 20th of every month.
He ordered all Ministries, Departments, Agencies, and County Governments to process and finalize their monthly payrolls by the 15th of every month.
“To further enhance the efficiency, accuracy, and integrity of the Government payroll management and to safeguard the timely remittance of all statutory deductions including but not limited to Pay As You Earn (PAYE), National Social Security Fund (NSSF), Higher Education Loan Board (HELB), National Industrial Training Authority (NITA), pension contributions, and Social Health Authority (SHA), the Government has revised the payroll procession and closure deadline to the 18th day of every month, effective immediately,” read the circular.
He said adherence to this revised schedule will facilitate the timely submission of exchequer requisitions to the National Treasury by the 20th of every month and to ensure that all public officers statutory deductions are up to date and active.
Previously teachers used to get salaries from 26th of every month. However there has been a paradigm shift following this new order.
The Commission has already availed the payslips online through the famous TPay portal for teachers to view and transact.
However a number of things came out as some teachers rejoiced after getting enhanced pay while others expressed frustrations after getting sudden deductions in their December salaries.
A number of teachers lamented over some deductions with some claiming sh. 4,000 to sh. 5,000 disappearing from their salaries. Its now confirmed that the deduction was to pay pending HELB loans.
Some teachers however received additional payment after TSC cleared pending arrears through the December salaries.
They include teachers who were promoted but had pending salary arrears. Some teachers were also recently promoted automatically to next job group inline with Career Progression Guidelines (CPG).
A number of teachers were paid pending arrears from claims in allowances. Some had been transferred to hardship zones and were claiming arrears for the hardship allowance.
The December salary is key to teachers as its a pacesetter for late December and early January expenses which include Christmas and New year festivities, school and travel expenses.
Early salary payment means a lot to teachers as they can now buget for the current and upcoming events expenses.
In January teachers will get their salaries together with annual leave allowance. Contrary many public servants get their annual leave allowance with December salaries.
Below are the salaries and allowances payable to teachers from job group B5 to D5 inline with CBA 2025 – 2029.
