Schools opening pushed to Tuesday 12th as Monday declared holiday

School opening date has been pushed to Tuesday 12th July 2022 after Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i declared Monday, July 11, 2022, a  public holiday.

In a gazette notice issued on Friday, Matiang’i said Monday would be holiday to allow the marking of Idd ul-Adha.

“IT IS notified for general information that in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 3 as read with section 2 (2) of the Public Holidays Act (Cap. 110), the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Co-ordination of National Government declares Monday, 11th July, 2022 a public holiday marking Idd–ul –Adha,” reads the Gazette Notice dated July 8, 2022.

Term two was scheduled to start on Monday 11th but now will start on Tuesday 12th July to 16th September 2022 when it will end.

The second term has a total of eleven weeks. It is going to be a busy term as candidate classes prepare for their final exams and assessments.

According to Matiang’i Monday 11th is dedicated to Muslim brothers and sisters to celebrate Idd–ul –Adha.

Idd–ul –Adha also known as the Feast of the Sacrifice, is the second and the biggest celebration within Islam.

This day honours the willingness of the Islamic Prophet Ibrahim, also known as Abraham, to sacrifice his son Ismail as an act of obedience to Allah’s command.
