The Ministry of education has initiated a plan to execute payment of school non teaching staff.
This comes after pressure from different quarters for the government to honor a promise it made.
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino was among the few politicians who have been pushing for payment of BOM teachers and school support staff.
“I am thankful to my very good friend and belly ally Prof.George Albert Magoha Omore CS Education for listening to my plea and acting positively by paying the non teaching staff in the country. May he live longer than Methuselah. Non teaching staff will be paid from Monday. Nitawachosha na kazi,” Babu Owino had said after Ministry initiated the plan to pay non teaching staff.
This is a relief for all public schools after a threat to paralyse learning starting this week when schools have partially reopened if the government fails to pay them their salaries.
The group of workers under the umbrella Kenya Union of Secondary Schools Non-teaching Staff had in September sought for permit from the police service to hold peaceful demonstrations to demand for their salaries and which they had been granted.
The Ministry responding to President Uhuru directive to cushion school workers and BOM teachers from the effects of Covid-19 released the Vote head for free secondary education funds which captured payment for both BOM teachers and school support staff.

In the circular the Ministry of Education said in January 2020, it released 50% 0f FDSE funds to schools.
These funds included P.E funds up to June 2020.
On Thursday the Education CS Prof. George Magoha said kshs 13 billion had been released for Free Day Secondary Edcuation (FSDE).
“The Free Primary Education funds have already been released and should be in schools today or tomorrow while the Sh13 billion meant for Free Secondary Education will be in schools on Thursday,” said Prof Magoha.
In the circular the Ministry of Education had further directed school heads that Ksh. 3,226 per learner should be utilized in the payment of salaries to non-teaching staff, water and electricity bills as well as administrative costs up to December 2020.
Already all BOM teachers with TSC numbers have been paid.
The payment which is kshs 10,000 per month is expected to run from July to December 2020.
However Ministry of Education has evaded the question on payment of Primary school BOM teachers.
