Grade 10 learners admission to senior schools to start a three year senior school education is currently ongoing countrywide.

The exercise which started on 12th January enters its third day today. Parents are in a rush to ensure their children are admitted to start their senior secondary education.

Around118,000 learners out of 1.3 million eligible candidates reported to Grade 10 schools across the country on the first day of implementation of the Competency Based Education (CBE).

Basic Education Principal Secretary, Julius Bitok, said reporting is ongoing and assured no learner will be left behind.

“This is the first week when most learners are reporting. We are monitoring admissions digitally and are confident that by the end of the week, nearly all students will have reported,” he said.

Addressing concerns over learning materials, Prof Bitok said textbooks and other resources are being distributed and are expected to reach schools by Friday.

Publishers had begun printing immediately, although logistics challenges mean only 50% of textbooks will reach schools by January 16th with full printing and distribution expected by January 31, 2026.

For now Grade 10 learners will have to share textbooks as they wait for the other 50% of textbooks to be availed.
