P1 teacher regrets not finishing degree studies, misses deployment

A primary school teacher in Kilifi who was unable to apply for deployment to junior secondary school says he regrets to not have completed his university studies.

Samuel Mudasha says he regrets his actions which has made him miss the golden promotion opportunity.

“I joined Pwani University hoping to complete my studies and earn myself a promotion from my employer TSC but something made me not to complete the university education,” reveals Samuel.

The thirty seven year old teacher says he comes from a humble background and had to make decisions based on the nature of his family.

Samuel says he has all qualifications to do Bachelors Education (secondary option). At the university he was doing Geography/Kiswahili.

However the teacher says he used part of the loan he took to pay dowry for his wife who he says he loves dearly.

He thought after paying dowry he will still remain with some good amount to help him finish the remaining two of the twelve sessions at Pwani University but this did not happen because new family responsibilities caught up with him.

However Mudasha has now applied for a loan to complete his studies that will earn him promotion.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) recently reopened application for deployment to junior secondary for practicing P1 teachers.

The Commission through its social media platforms had made an announcement that the application is reactivated and will go on till 22nd March.

“The Commission has extended the period of application for deployment to Junior Secondary Schools. The portal has been re-opened. Primary school teachers with requisite qualifications are encouraged to apply. Use the following link https://tsconline.tsc.go.ke/tsc-teacher/login to access the portal. Deadline for application is 22nd March 2023,” said TSC.

Most deployed teachers are primary school teachers in job group C1 followed by those who are in job group B5.

Salary for a deployed C2 teacher
Basic salary 34,955
House allowance (other areas) 7,500
Hardship 10,900
Commuter 5,000
Leave(paid only in January) 6,000

Those deployed (with degree certificates) will be placed at job group C2 where they will serve for a period of three years before being moved automatically to job group C3.

Those B5 teachers with diplomas will however start at job group C1 where they will serve for a three year period then they will be elevated to job group C2 automatically.

TSC also deployed primary school headteachers who have junior secondary domiciled in their stations.

TSC Sub County Directors issued the headteachers with deployment letters to serve as Principals of junior secondary schools.

The Commission ordered the Sub County Directors to ensure the teachers are deployed to their current stations or those that are close to their current stations.

TSC said teachers with SNE qualification should be posted to Special JSS.

TSC is under pressure to allow primary school teachers with other degree and diploma certificates to teach in junior secondary.
