THE 2025 GYMNASTICS TABLE FOR PRIMARY SCHOOLS
THEME: NURTURING LEARNER’S POTENTIAL THROUGH GYMNASTICS
The gymnastics display should be accompanied by rhythmic music. The presentation should consist of synchronized movements that bring out creativity in Gymnastics skills. The activities will be performed in combinations of individual, pairs and groups.
The teacher/trainer has been given a set of sequences formed from the various categories of gymnastics skills. He/she has a free hand to choose the skills that are suitable for the execution of these sequences.
GUIDING RULES.
1) The music to accompany the gymnastics display will be chosen by the individual team. The music may be recorded or composed using musical instruments. It should be loud enough to be heard. Teams are advised to avoid the use of microphones. Also note that dancing in the main display is not allowed.
2) The number of participants per team shall be 20, a total of 16 shall take the field. The duration for performance shall be 15 minutes.
3) The skills should be chosen from the range of gymnastics skills which can be found in the Creative Activities/Creative Arts curriculum designs for primary schools. Teams can seek the help of Physical Education specialists in schools and/or colleges to guide them on interpretation of tables.
4) The gymnastics table shall be used by both boys and girls.
5) During competitions at all levels (from zonal to nationals) the organizing committee shall ensure teams receive the gymnastics table of guidelines in advance.
6) Safety precautions should be considered by teacher/trainer in selection and performance of activities, as well as the use of apparatus.
7) At all levels of the competitions a minimum of three (3) judges should be used to judge displays from the zonal level to the regional level. They must be impartial and preferably Physical Education Specialists. They shall judge independently and take average award of points as final score for any one team.
8) Teacher/trainer should minimize movements during displays.
GYMNASTICS TABLE SPECIFICATIONS
PART I.
This entails movement activities that the team will use to enter the marked arena.
They should NOT be gymnastics skills but activities to warm up the participants.
They may include different formations and patterns based on creativity and the theme. Should start at a low pace, increase gradually and last approximately 2 minutes.
PART II: DISPLAY OF GYMNASTICS SKILLS
a) Skills performed individually without apparatus.
- Springs – Roll – Balance
- Tumbling – Spring – Roll – Balance
b) Skills performed in two’s or pairs or groups without Apparatus.
- Somersault – Roll – Spring (x2)
- Tumbling – Spring – Roll – Balance (x2)
c) Skills performed individually with apparatus.
- Springs – Roll – Vault (x2)
- Balance – Spring – Vault – Roll
d) Skills performed in two’s or pair’s or groups with apparatus.
- Springs – Roll – Vault – Balance (x2)
- Somersault – Spring – Roll – Balance
PART III. PYRAMIDS
This will involve a variety of formations based on creativity.
PART IV. EXIT/DEPARTURE
This entails movement activities that the team will use to leave the marked arena
They will involve slow movement activities different from the entry activities and NOT Gymnastics skills.

- The display should Not be organized as a Creative Activities/Creative Arts lesson. The table should be strictly adhered to.
- In case of any appeal at Zonal or Regional level it should be directed to organizing committee.
NB: SAFETY
This is very essential and covers the use of apparatus, attire, the type of ground and execution of skills. Important points to note:
- The teacher/trainer should start training of skills in January so that skills can be mastered by April.
- The apparatus used should be stable and in good condition.
- Select the right activities/skills.
- Ensure that the participants can perform the activities you have selected without strain.
- The area of performance should be free of any harmful objects.
- Be on look out on the following which can cause injury:
- Spacing between one pupil to another.
- Spacing of apparatus
- Objects on the ground.
- Safe landing.
- Any other situation that can cause injury.
- The teacher /trainer should not mix boys and girls in the same team, however they can train together.
