To: ALL KNUT Executive Secretaries

Dear Colleagues,

RE: BRANCH EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE (BEC) MEETINGS AND SCHOOL REPRESENTATIVES MOBILIZATION

The National Executive Council (NEC) sitting on Friday 16th August, 2024 resolved and DIRECTED that I issue NOTICE of intended Industrial Action to Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

This notice was delivered to T SC without delay on the same day. The following pertinent issues of dispute were raised to TSC:

1) Failure to implement the 2nd phase of the 2021/2025 reviewed CBA signed between Teachers Service Commission and Kenya National Union of Teachers.

2) Failure to remit 3 rd party deductions such as bank loans, Sacco Savings and loan repayment deductions, Burial and Benevolence and Education Fund savings and loan deductions and NSSF deductions to respective organizations.

3) Delayed conversion of 46,000 Junior School teachers to Permanent and Pensionable Terms of employment and employment of 20,000 new teachers.

4) Failure to promote 130,000 teachers who were shortlisted and sat for interviews in December 2023.

5) Failure to remit capitation to medical insurers to allow service providers offer medical services to sick teachers and their families.

Upon expiry of the 7 days’ notice, if the TSC does not act on the matters, all members of the Union shall commence Industrial Action and withdraw labour on Monday, 26th August, 2024.

You are therefore directed to convene urgent BEC meetings to discuss ways on how to mobilize the School Representatives and the members for effective Industrial Actions as directed by the National Executive Council.

You are supposed to inform the Secretary General’s Office on when you are to hold the BEC meeting and confirm the same after holding the meeting. Every Branch is supposed to follow this DIRECTIVE without fail.

Solidarity!

SECRETARY GENERAL K.N.U.T.
