The Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) is set to start training of teachers who will be used for marking of this years national examinations tomorrow in various centres in Nairobi.
However this years training is marred with chaos as teachers who registered and some even made payments as required fail to get information from Knec on the venue for the training.
Many primary and secondary school teachers are in turmoil as others start to report for the training.
In an advert last month Knec said only those who made payment will be informed of the training venues.
Arrival of primary school teachers at Alliance Boys High School has started, with many teachers who paid for the training failing to get invitation to attend from Knec.
Many high school teachers are also stranded after Knec failed to send them traning venues despite making payments.
The examiner is yet to address the confusion including whether it will refund or defer training for teachers who have paid but failed to attend for lack of proper invitation.
Knec had asked interested primary and secondary school teachers to apply for training as KCPE and KCSE examiners by 31st August.
Knec had invited TSC teachers with the required qualifications and no disciplinary cases to apply for the training through an online portal.
Teachers who applied for training as KCPE and KCSE examiners were then required to confirm their selection and complete the process for their training by making payment.
The payment of ksh 10,500 according to Knec was to be made through Mpesa paybill 819313 with Account name as TRAINING by 11th September.
Knec also directed the selected applicants to make payments strictly by using mobile phone numbers which they registered with during registration for their training.
Applicants were to log into the CP2 online portal accounts using their usernames and passwords to check whether they are selected for the training.
Those selected also got a SMS informing them to make payment. The SMS was only sent through the mobile number provided during application.
“You have been shortlisted to train as an examiner in 451/2. Please pay training fee of KES 10,500 through Mpesa paybill number 819313, Account name is TRAINING by 11th September, 2022. Use your registered mobile number to make the payment for ease of name matching,” read a SMS of Esther Mayiani who applied for training Computer studies paper 2.
However Knec said only those who made payment will be informed of the training venues.
Those who will be trained will used for marking of this years KCPE and KCSE examinations.
Primary school teachers were invited for training for marking of KCPE English Composition and Kiswahili Insha papers.

In the advert Knec listed the following requirements as criteria for training as an examiner.
CRITERIA FOR TRAINING AS AN EXAMINER
General criteria for all the trainee examiners
Must be a practicing teacher in the relevant subject areas at the level of examination.
Must be registered and/or employed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
Have a minimum qualification of P1 for KCPE examination with a minimum of a C (plain) at KCSE level in the subject they are applying to train.
Must have a Diploma in Education and above for KCSE marking.
Have a minimum teaching experience of three (3) years.
Must NOT be on interdiction or any other form of disciplinary action from the TSC.
Must be recommended by his/her head of institution and
Must be 50 years of age and below.
