CS Magoha in Kwale to officially open Kwale Teachers Training College

After President Uhuru Kenyatta made an impromptu visit to Kwale county on Monday to inspect a number of projects running in the area, today Education CS Prof. Magoha visited the area to oversee commencement of key projects.

Professor Magoha has today issued a certificate for Kwale Teachers Training College (TTC) so that it can start an intake of learners and provide training.

The college which has now officially been registered becomes the second public TTC in coast region after Shanzu TTC and will offer Certificate and Diploma in Education courses.

CS Magoha also saw a Principal been posted in the collegeto make it officially up and running.

After visiting the county on Monday president Uhuru had promised kshs 150 million for completion of the project which enters phase two.

Kwale county Education Minister Mr Mangale Ndegwa Chiforomodo has acknowledged receiving kshs 50 million by the county from the president which was wired into the accounts early this week.

The County Education Minister has also said the college will have its first intake when learning resumes in colleges and universities after the Covid-19 pandemic.

The President had visited Lungalunga sub-county to inspect the ongoing construction of a tarmac road from Lungalunga Kibaoni to Mwangulu before visiting Bang’a in Kinango Sub-county to inspect the ongoing construction of the first ever Teachers Training College (TTC) in the county.

“An impromptu visit to Kwale Teachers Training College with President Uhuru Kenyatta. Through this visit H.E Kenyatta has decided to support this project with 150 million to aid in the next phases of construction,” Kwale governor Salim Mvurya had said.

“We have also requested the president to complete the tarmac from Kinango to Kwale. He has asked CS roads to ensure the contractor reports to site by November this year. We look forward to this, because the road is key to the opening of the county. We are also grateful to the President for the construction of Lungalunga Kibaoni to Mwangulu which has commenced,” Mvurya added.

The Sh300 million teachers training college will be used to train Diploma in Education students as well as those taking Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) courses.

It is the second public teachers training college (TTC) in Coast after Shanzu in Mombasa.

The other TTC in Bura is a private one owned by the Catholic Church.
